Turks use big 2nd quarter to top Wolves | Boys basketball

Three solid quarters can't always erase one weak one.

The Coupeville High School boys basketball team found that out at Sultan Friday, Jan. 31, losing 79-67.

The Wolves outscored the Turks 52-48 over the first, third and fourth quarters, but the second quarter, that was another story.

Sultan racked up an impressive 31 points to 15 for Coupeville in the second period, and that was enough to overcome the Wolves' three-quarters advantage.

The Wolves had three players score in double figures and six score eight or more points: Anthony Bergeron 14, Gavin O'Keefe 10, Nick Streubel 10, Wiley Hesselgrave nine, Joel Walstad eight and Morgan Payne eight.

Aaron Trumbull added six and Matt Shank two.

Giovanni Williams topped Sultan (7-4, 10-7) with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Coupeville (1-11, 3-15), which did not qualify for the playoffs, hosts its final home game at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, with second-place Archbishop Murphy (8-3, 8-9).

The Wolves finish up the season at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Granite Falls (5-6, 8-9).
