Wolves end season with 2 losses | Soccer

The Coupeville High School soccer team wrapped up its season with a pair of home losses.

The Wolves fell 7-0 Saturday, Oct. 26, to King's and 3-0 Monday, Oct. 28, to Granite Falls.

Wolves' coach Troy Cowan said, "King's was challenging but the girls really played hard."

Goalie Joye Jackson was "playing the best game of her short, high school soccer life when she was accidentally clipped by a King's player," Cowan said.

The injured Jackson, who helped hold King's to two goals, was forced to leave the match early in the second half and then "the flood gates were opened and they started an assault we couldn't recover from," Cowan said.

The Knights finished second in the Cascade Conference with a 12-2 mark, 12-3 overall.

The match with Granite Falls was Senior Night for the Wolves, honoring Jackson and Tori Wellman.

However the celebration was marred by a concussion to Jacki Ginnings; the injury sent the Coupeville junior to the hospital.

"The girls played hard and were in it till the end," Cowan said.

He added that Bree Daigneault and Micky LeVine "played well."

"With our season complete I am thankful for the opportunity to work with a bunch of wonderful, hard-working, inspiring young ladies," Cowan said.

"They made me proud all season and it was an honor and privilege to be their coach. I am very excited about next year and will be instituting an off-season work out program and offering the Lady Wolves several opportunities to get back on the pitch and work on their game."

Coupeville finished the year 1-13 in league and 2-14 overall.
