Mother Nature didn't make life any easier for the Coupeville High School soccer team in its 6-0 loss to  undefeated and third-ranked Archbishop Murphy Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Mickey Clark Field.

A deep fog, often making it difficult to see past 30 yards, hampered the Wolves' defensive effort to slow the high-powered Wildcat offense.

Archbishop Murphy (12-0, 14-0), which has outscored its opponents 60-5 this season, pierced the fog for five first-half goals.

Coupeville coach Troy Cowan said his club played much better in the second half with its "defense stepping up and matching ATM's energy."

Starting goalie Julia Myers was out with a concussion, and McKayla Bailey and Joye Jackson "did a great job," Cowan said, against the constant Wildcat assault.

Another defensive standout, according to Cowan, was Jennifer Spark, who "saved us from giving up more goals."

Spark has "really improved her play," Cowan said, and is "an amazing all-around player" and has "an impactful presence in this league."

Jackie Ginnings "also played awesome," according to Cowan, "flying around in the 18 just daring offensive players to enter."

Offensively, Cowan said, Erin Rosenkranz "played solid and was on point distributing the ball with precision and finesse."

He said he was "very proud of all the girls."

Cowan added, "We are trying to build something special here in Coupeville and change the culture, and this takes time and lots of hard work. The Lady Wolves are giving me all the hard work, we just need to be patient and stay the course."

Coupeville (1-10, 2-11) goes to Granite Falls (3-8, 3-9-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, and then hosts King's (10-2, 10-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
