Francis Barrett “Frank” Gavin

Francis B. “Frank” Gavin was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Grass Valley, Calif., to Frank and Rhema Gavin and raised by Darrell and Rhema Coons.

Frank spent 20 years in the Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer and then spent the next 17 years as a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office. He always said he never had a job he didn’t enjoy.

Frank is survived by his wife, Georgine, of Oak Harbor; his stepchildren, Martha Moore (Rodney), of Woodinville, Wash., Leo Shuler, of Marysville, Wash., Kenneth Shuler, of Oregon, and Fate and Sue Shuler, of Seward, Alaska; and by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, Robert Coons (Renee), and sisters, Rhonna Murdock (Jim), Eileen Smith (Larry Norton) and Gayle Valverde, all of Sacramento, Calif.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
