Ferry officials were forced to cancel a sailing Monday evening on the Port Townsend to Coupeville ferry route.

Marta Coursey, spokeswoman for Washington State Ferries, said the Salish had a faulty alarm, which the crew was able to quickly repair.

Officials still had to cancel the 4:30 p.m. sailing out of Coupeville. The ferry ran late on the 5:15 p.m. sailing out of Port Townsend and the 6 p.m. sailing out of Coupeville as a result., she said.

The Salish ran approximately 40 minutes behind schedule for the remainder of the evening.

When the ferry out of Coupeville is canceled, motorists are left with the lengthy trip of taking the Clinton ferry and then the Edmonds/Kingston ferry to travel to the Olympic Peninsula.
