Gingerbread contest entries on display now

This intricate Native American longhouse – complete with Native canoes fashioned from gingerbread dough and 'salmon' drying on racks made of pretzel sticks – is one of about two dozen entries so far in this year's Gingerbread Challenge, sponsored by The Whidbey Examiner. Entries are on display at the Coupeville library at 788 N.W. Alexander St. Entre 'fee' is a donation of non-perishable food for Gifts from the Heart food bank. Contest winners will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Red Ticket drawing on the steps of the Island County Historical Museum in Coupeville. / Kasia Pierzga
