October 17, 2012 · Updated 11:37 AM
A recent drug take-back program in Island County brought in almost 300 pounds of prescription drugs.
Three collection sites were allowed local residents to drop off unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications.
Law enforcement officials say the program provides an environmentally safe way of destroying the medications.
It also helps remove addictive prescription medications from households, reducing the risk of misuse or theft.
