Two new teachers join Coupeville Elementary School faculty

Sean LeClaire is teaching art in kindergarten through 5^th grade, and English Language Learners at the elementary school and middle / high school.

Hometown: Spokane, Wash.

Education: Central Washington University for Art Education K-12, then the English Language Learning Program (certification) at Seattle Pacific University.

Teaching experience: I began teaching in 2008 as a student teacher and substitute in Yakima School District. I was a substitute in several different districts from 2009 to 2012.

Connection to Coupeville: I began substitute teaching here last school year (2011-2012). I moved to Whidbey Island in August 2011.

What is your favorite subject to teach? My favorite lessons to teach are painting and ceramics. The students really enjoy working with both of those mediums. I like seeing how creative the students are with their projects when they get to paint or work with clay.

Is there something unique or unusual that most people might not know about you? Prior to teaching, I worked in college radio for Central Washington University's student-run station KCWU, where I was a DJ and the station's music director.

What is your favorite place that you have visited? The Louvre Museum in Paris, France or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Lisa Nguyen is a special education teacher for preschool.

Hometown: Los Angeles. I've been on Whidbey Island for three years now and love it here!

Education: Dual B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education, as well as a second B.A. in English Education.

Teaching experience: This is my first year as a teacher. I was an Emotional/Behavioral Disorders paraeducator in Oak Harbor prior to the completion of my certificate.

What is your favorite subject to teach? I love art. I'm hoping to incorporate more painting and crafts during the year.

Is there something unique or unusual that most people might not know about you? I love running and exercising. It's a great way to stay healthy and increase energy for the school day!

What is your favorite place that you have visited? Actually, it's Whidbey Island, which is why I'm staying here permanently.
