Burn ban remains in effect
September 6, 2012 · Updated 10:13 AM
Due to a lack of rainfall, Island County residents are prohibited from lighting open fires under a burn ban approved by county Sheriff Mark Brown.
A news brief published in the South Whidbey Record incorrectly stated that the burn ban has been lifted.
The burn ban decision was based on dry weather conditions and low humidity combined with the reduced availability of firefighting resources as the result of fires being fought in other parts of the state. The factors have caused a substantial risk of the spread of fire within Island County.
Violations should be reported to 911. The sheriff’s office can be reached at 360-678-4422 or 360-321-5113 Ext. 7310 or at MarkB@co.island.wa.us.
