My husband and I moved to Whidbey Island just over a year ago, and I’ve been wondering what the public sentiment towards gun violence prevention was going to be in the wake of the murder of 20 small children and their teachers in Connecticut. I’ve asked some acquaintances, and looked for comments in this paper, and still don’t have a good feel for how my fellow Coupeville residents feel about gun policy proposals under discussion.

Last week, the council unanimously approved a not-to-exceed $10,000 contract with Snohomish County Undersheriff Tom Davis for consulting services at their regular Tuesday meeting.

Feb 22 2013, 3:24 PM Anticipating a difficult negotiation ahead with state regulators over their recent ban of net-pen salmon farming, the Island County Commissioners are putting high hopes on new legislation proposed in Olympia. House Bill 1599 would empower cities and counties to prohibit the siting of such facilities in their areas through provisions of long-range planning documents known as shoreline master programs.
Low-income housing project faces septic issues

Island County Housing Authority officials confirmed this week that the costs of septic system requirements may exceed initial expectations and the increase in costs may torpedo the project.
