Garden Tour offers grants
Oct 15 2012, 10:15 AM The 18th annual Whidbey Island Garden Tour is seeking qualified grant applicants to receive funding from the June 22, 2013 tour. Projects emphasizing public space enhancement and education are of particular interest. Grants typically run from $1,000 up to $10,000. The deadline is Oct. 31. Kessler, Grassman engagement
Carly Kessler and Cody Grassman have announced their engagement. High school sweethearts and 2011 Coupeville High School graduates, they are planning their wedding for late summer or early fall in 2013.Carly is the daughter of Daryl and Brandy Kessler of Greenbank. She is an Early Childhood Education major at Everett Community College and will graduate next spring. Cody is the son of James and Amy Grassman of Oak Harbor. He attended Everett Community College and has enlisted in the the U.S. Navy. He leaves for boot camp in November. Educator Patrick Shanahan opened Coupeville Learning Center at the beginning of September at 6 N.W. Coveland St. in the former Whidbey Examiner office, offering a variety of learning experiences for students, whether they are enrolled in public school or are being home-schooled.
Support helps families of gays understand, accept
Sharon and Jim Kabler of Freeland have learned how important acceptance and understanding are for parents and friends of lesbians and gays.
