Firefighters from Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue and North Whidbey Fire and Rescue rushed to the Capt. Whidbey Inn Monday after an inn employee spotted a fire smoldering in a garden adjacent to the historic, century-old facility.



Late-night crabbers rescued
Local and off-island rescue units kicked into high gear a little after 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27 when two boaters who’d gone out for an after-dinner crabbing and fishing jaunt between Whidbey and Camano islands found themselves stranded in dark waters.

Human foot sent to Texas for DNA testing
If everything goes as it should, scientists at the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas in Fort Worth will be able to determine the identify of the person whose foot was found Aug. 27 by a vacationer on the beach off North Bluff Road in Greenbank.
