Coupeville Garden Club plant sale is Saturday

The Coupeville Garden Club’s annual plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the Coupeville Rec Hall.

The unseasonably warm temperatures this month are keeping Cindy Golgart on her toes.

She’s found it more challenging this year to keep up with watering plants in the greenhouse run by the Coupeville Garden Club and can tell by the roots popping through holes in planter bottoms that it’s time to find them new homes.

“They’re ready to be sold,” Golgart said.

Fortunately for Golgart and other garden club members, that time is near.

The Coupeville Garden Club’s annual plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the Coupeville Rec Hall.

It’s generally a much-anticipated event for gardeners in the community who begin forming a line before doors open.

About 1,500 plants will be available ranging in price from $2 to $10.

Among them will be over 400 tomato plants, representing 10 different varieties, and each for $4.

There also will be more than 300 geraniums as well as dahlias, petunias and other plant species.

“This is the most plants we’ve had,” Colgart said.

The tomato plants typically generate the most excitement.

The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the garden club, which is caretaker for numerous landscaping sites around the Town of Coupeville as well as the flower barrels hanging baskets around town.
