Voting record shows Bailey is on wrong side | Letter

Editor,

After a year of political name-calling and clever ads and sound bytes, I’ve given up on candidates’ promises and now look at their voting records.

As lovely as people say Barbara Bailey is, she flunks on most issues that are important to me. She favors business over labor and, Lord knows, people in our region are suffering as wages stagnate and costs rise.

Bailey gets terrible marks from the League of Conservation Voters. In an era of climate change that has the military’s and insurance industry’s attention as well as environmentalists, we can’t afford someone who doesn’t take what might be unpopular stands on carbon and other pollution.

She gets an A-plus from the National Rifle Association, or NRA, which after Orlando finds itself far on the wrong side of history. She gets 100 percent from the Freedom Foundation, part of the team that wants to shrink government in the name of freedom until our Social Security and Medicare go away.

The Cascade Bicycle Club gave her under 40 percent favorable at a time when we need to support transportation alternatives.

Finally, Bailey is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, funded by the uber-libertarian and ultra-rich Koch Brothers. Maybe you like what they are doing with their money, but their agenda scares the bejesus out of me. Look them up.

Why Angie Homola? I don’t have a long voting record to examine, but she comes down on the right side of what I care about: labor, environmental protection, justice and veterans.

A Navy wife, she is still willing to listen to all points of view on the impact of testing and training in our region.

She studies hard and is honest and seems uniquely qualified to represent our whole community.

And she has the courage to run.
