Greenbank to sell wine shop

The Greenbank Farm Management Group is looking for interested parties to take over its wine shop.

The Greenbank Farm Management Group is looking for interested parties to take over its wine shop.

“It’s hard at this stage of the game,” said Judy Feldman, executive director of the management group. “It’s hard to get volunteers. We think someone who owns the shop will have more time to devote to it.”

Feldman said the management group decided to sell the business so it can devote its time and energy into other aspects of the farm.

The wine shop, also known as the farm shop, serves as the gateway/welcome center for the Greenbank Farm.

Feldman said it’s important to the management group to find someone who is willing to learn some of the history of the farm and wants to be a part of the community that has been created.

“It needs to be somebody who understands this place,” Feldman said. “They have to work with the synergy of the farm. They have to want to be here as a part of the farm.”

And, of course, she hopes the buyer will continue on the tradition of selling loganberry wine.

“It’s really a legacy from when Chateau Ste. Michelle owned the farm,” Feldman said. “The community has come to expect to get loganberry wine here and that they can come taste the wine.”

The management group has not named a price for the cost of the business. Feldman said that depends on such issues as whether the buyer wants to retain the inventory or needs storage space.

The wine shop is 350 square feet and there is an additional 154 square-feet storage space available.

Feldman said any buyer would be entering into a lease agreement with the Port of Coupeville. The management group currently holds leases at the farm, but per a new contract the port will be taking over leases on Jan. 1, 2016.

“We anticipate keeping everything as is,” Feldman said. “We hope for a smooth transition and that visitor experience.”
