Linnane Armstrong will be the featured artist at Christopher’s Restaurant in Coupeville for the months of May and June.

Detailed patterns adorn dramatic landscapes and natural elements in Armstrong’s linocut and woodcut prints.

“I begin most pieces by sketching on location, and taking some reference photos,” Armstrong said on her website. “Later in my studio I complete a more finished layout sketch for the piece, detailing the composition, values, and in some cases color.”

“Most of my linocuts are printed in one color, either designed as monochrome prints, or awaiting hand-applied watercolor paintings over the finished prints. To create a multiple color woodcut, I carve a separate block of wood for each color in the design, printing them in layers to achieve the full image.”

“Each hand-printed block print may have slight natural variances can appear from one print to the next, adding to the uniqueness and charm of these original artworks.”

Patterns transition between light and dark values that inspires her of the Whidbey Island scenes. Inspiration comes from nature and tradition while offering a new perspective.
